When they proposed to do away with Kings people shrieked that society would descend into chaos because the King was the glue that held society together. They did away with Kings and society continued on as before. When they proposed to do away with God people shrieked that society would descend into chaos because God was the glue that held society together. They did away with God and society continued on as before. These two examples would appear to suggest that society operates on the basis of its own logic independent of Kings or of God, and even maybe that society functions not because of Kings or of God, but in fact despite them. This is arguably why when we do away with the state society will continue on as before, though people shriek that society will descend into chaos in the false belief that the state is the glue that holds society together (as opposed to its true role, best articulated by the comment from James Madison, 4th President of the United States, that the primary function of government should be ‘to protect the minority of the opulent from the majority). In the final analysis the only thing supporting Kings, Gods and States is the belief that we must have oppression or we will have chaos.
