When this ALS ice bucket challenge craze began, it was just the celebrities who were doing it (and were also donating money) but slowly this #ALSicebucketchallenge has become an in thing, everyone, everywhere, everyday is doing it!! to them I ask, what is the significance of this challenge? Why do use ice cold water? Im sure many dont even know its full form, everyone is following the herd mentality Now I ask, why donate only for ALS?? There are so many other incurable diseases too in this world!! The statistics themselves speak a million words!! - every 2 people per 100,000 are diagnosed with ALS - out of 313.9 million people in USA, ONLY 30,000 are ESTIMATED to have ALS Now some other facts: - 34 million people had AIDS in 2010 - 14 million people world wide are diagnosed with cancer annually (5,64,800 in USA alone) -Ebola has no cure as of yet except quarantine - The ALS challenge has already raised 70.2 million dollars and is targeting the 100 million mark The number of ALS affected people is meager as compared to these staggering numbers. Ebola originated in Africa, a backward nation due to which research work is very slow, why not donate funds there?? Its very well known that Ebola is a deadly disease and is highly contagious, also a world out break can be lethal. Why not donate for these incurable diseases??? Most of the ALS affected people are Americans. America is rich, it has enough money to build unnecessary nuke heads, it has enough money to build arms and costly drones, then u gotta be kidding me right, when u tell me that they cannot fund the research for ALS??!!! To top it all every person takes the ice bucket challenge, why??? Why waste a bucket of water??? A few comments justified saying that its JUST one bucket or half a bucket... CHALTA HAI... I say, go and ask a person the importance of even one cup of water in a drought prone area!!! Then youll understand the importance of that just one bucket. Another friend said that hed like to do the challenge since it looks fun... Seriously? Since when did wasting one bucket of water become fun??? For this challenge Id say Dont nominate if u dont Donate!! I would like to conclude by saying that donation is indeed a noble act but it has to be done in the right manner and in a way that it benefits maximum people and not just a disease- specific community/cause. Peace Out :) :) And for those who yet arent convinced can read this: slate/articles/business/moneybox/2014/08/als_ice_bucket_challenge_giving_money_to_disease_specific_charities_is_a.html
