When time came at the end of our training in Class 05-85, we talked about what to give the Battalion/AOCS as a class gift. I suggested I get my Dad, a former Vietnam A-4 pilot who was graced with no small amount of artistic talent, to do a painting for us as a gift. I was down home a few weekends ago and came across this picture he took of the finished product (I cleaned it up as much as I could it being almost 30 years old). It was from a moment in time he had in his head - returning to the ship (CVA-14, TICO) after a mission - MERs empty - on Christmas Eve 1966. The class had a small plaque made that said something to the effect of To AOCS Battalion I from Honor Class 05-85. It was a big hit. Unfortunately, I asked about all those photos and gifts and what happened to them on a visit to Pensacola years later and many of them were lost in one of the hurricanes that came through., Sad.
