When traveling one of our busy streets I observed an act of kindness that gives a glimmer of hope for humanity. It happened like this; an elderly woman walking the sidewalk pulling a wire basket, which had two wheels and loaded with multiply bags. Her attire was her hair in curlers and wrapped in a scarf. She was dressed in a plaid skirt, with a flowered blouse, and with knee high socks and tennis shoes. She pulled her basket along the side walk till a wheel somehow became lodged, impeding her travel. A young man riding a skate board was speeding along, with his baseball cap turned backwards, and his ear lobes gaged, and with his neck and arms adorned in tattoos. This young man dress was of an oversized shirt, trousers hanging low, with boxer shorts peeking above the trousers. No socks, shoes untied, completed his look. He sped along on his skateboard. Going the opposite direction as the elderly lady mentioned before. Then it happened, in one quick flick, the young man stopped his skate board all of sudden. The skateboard was flipped aside, and the young man quickly freed the women’s basket. A quick gesture of thanks was given and both parties went their separate ways. Just when I thought there is only evil and disrespect in this world, I had witnessed an act of kindness. Who I least expected it to come from, this young man. There is hope!
