When us baby boomers of the fifties are no longer around, the last - TopicsExpress

When us baby boomers of the fifties are no longer around, the last links to a low tech world will be no more. Try to explain to the young people of the 22nd Century what life was like without a mobile phone | washing machine | computer | TV set | car | CDs | mp3 etc...and you get a funny look. I am now 63 year old and I remember my childhood with fondness. Taking my turn with the ponch tub and dolly peg on washday - which was always Monday morning. Rinsing clothes in a zinc bath and squeezing the water out through a hand wound mangle before pegging out on the washing line. Counting the bags of coal which were being delivered in hessian sacks by men covered in coal dust and wearing a leather apron on their back like a cloak. Outside toilets and having to tear newspaper into squares, arrange into a stack and punch a hole in a corner for the string to go through. Toilet roll hadnt been invented...and your squares of newspaper were hung on a nail in the lavvy. Happy days
