When we (Jerrmy Gawthrop, Bernice Campbell Hembree, and I) first - TopicsExpress

When we (Jerrmy Gawthrop, Bernice Campbell Hembree, and I) first started down the road of the Fayetteville Roots Festival we knew we wanted to bring more than music to a stage. We established a non-profit 501c3 with the intent and commitment to present FREE cultural programming in conjunction with the festival each year. In most instances we have partnered with incredible organizations to tell stories, folk stories, through Gallery Exhibits, but also Workshops, Film, and other classes/talks. In 2012 we worked with the Woody Guthrie Archives to bring So Long Its Been Good to Know You: Woody Guthrie at 100 to Fayetteville as a part of the year long celebration of Woody Guthries 100th birthday. In 2013 we worked with Kelly Mulhollan, Donna Lynn Mulhollan, and the Walton Arts Center to Present True Faith, True Light: The Instruments of Ed Stilley of Hog Scald Holler and with Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art to present The Musical Experience of This Land, an interactive musical tour supplement to This Land a wonderful Depression-era gallery exhibit at Crystal Bridges. The interactive tour won a GOLD MUSE AWARD for Audio Tours and Podcasts from the American Alliance of Museums. In 2014, we are proud to partner with Rachel Reynolds Luster, Art of the Rural, the Center for Arkansas and Regional Studies, and UA Mullins Library Special Collections to present Mary Celestia Parler: Documenting 25 Years of Arkansas Folk Traditions. We invite you to take the time to check it out. We have worked hard to make all the programming for this years exhibits and past years exhibits FREE and open to the public. Our joy comes through seeing folks interact and enjoy the offerings. Check out more about the FREE programming happening during the 2014 Fayetteville Roots Festival at fayettevilleroots under SCHEDULE.
