When we allow ourselves to think outside of the box and have a progressive mindset, is when we can come up with ideas, operations, programs, policies, etc., that can better meet the needs of our entire society. We do this everyday in education, medicine, technology and so on - it is time to include animal control and sheltering. Currently Baltimore County has an elected official who chooses to deny, deny, deny and kill, kill, kill. They are killing the one thing that is changing the lives of inmates in a maximum-security prison in California. Not only do the dogs get a second chance of life (in the program listed below), but it would be believed that the inmates participating in this program would have a better chance of success once re-entering society. Only resulting in a safer & healthier community. Isnt that what our elected officials are suppose to strive for - to always be looking to create a high quality of life for its community? On that day I entered a maximum-security prison in Lancaster, Calif. to witness an extraordinary event connecting the lives of some of its inmates with a pack of rescued shelter dogs.
