When we lived in Bluemont, we were feeding a stray outdoor cat on the back porch, and we soon acquired a vixen who would come up on the porch to steal cat food. She got tamer and tamer and would take food from me. One day we were entertaining friends from the Blue Ridge Hunt, and while were all sitting on the porch, our vixen came and joined us. I was less well acquainted with her mate. He would take hand outs, but only from afar.
