When we look at the disasters in Oklahoma, we wonder what’s - TopicsExpress

When we look at the disasters in Oklahoma, we wonder what’s next. There will be a next and a next. We need to prepare before that, and we need to have disaster teams to clear off all the debris after a tornado, to take away the moldy furniture after a flood, to clean out and sweep and move people after a hurricane. This is now, not later. Each state needs disaster teams. Let our military provide manpower. Our National Guard should be put to work. We’ve got to provide temporary housing with mobile units. The government should have parks where there can be mobile hookups instantly in all communities so that there is instant housing available at a moment’s notice. It should always be on high ground. People need to be trained in how to restore electricity so that there won’t be long delays when there are outages. We need to have teams to take care of the injured, who go to the location and move them out as quickly as possible. We don’t need storm teams viewing the tornadoes. They are in harm’s way, and three just died last week from doing that. We need rescuers after the fact. The fundraisers look like heroes, but they just raise money for the fundraisers more than the victims. We need people who are willing to go to the disaster area and get people out. Thousands died in the New York area last fall because no one got to them in time. We have to expect worse there, and we have to have means of checking on people with no electricity and rescuing them. There is pressure not to alarm people, but that means more deaths. It’s better to assume danger and think of ways to help than it is to assume it will never happen again.
