When we operate from Rescuer/Victim consciousness, we presume that - TopicsExpress

When we operate from Rescuer/Victim consciousness, we presume that others cannot take care of themselves, especially if they have some kind of limitation. Such assumptions debilitate, rather than to foster growth. We actually get in their way with our well-intentioned, but crippling assistance! Rather than allowing them the pleasure gained from having their own personal wins, over life challenges - we attempt to protect them from life instead. Measures taken to provide such protection can end up fostering a deep-seated resentment in those we help. Instead of feeling grateful to us for intervening, they may feel trapped instead beneath heavy layers of their own ineptitude. They spend their lives in a padded cell of helplessness from which they dare not escape. Step back. Find reasons to rejoice instead over their smallest, seemingly awkward, triumphs. Look for ways to encourage them to meet the obstacles in their path as teachers, instead of as insurmountable problems, that support them to live free, independent, and self-responsible lives.
