When we saw Dixie waiting on the stretcher in the vet’s office, her ears were back and her eyes held a sadness I had never seen before. Tears threatened to spill as I wondered if we could bring Dixie back from the brink of despair one more time. Of course, Dr. Gensel knew our “secret;” Dixie was going to be leaving for a home and family, and he stood beside her and smiled. Dixie just looked very sad and defeated. She looked at Katie when she came in and I could tell she liked her, but the sadness was still there. We stood next to Dixie and discussed her needs, and we also talked a bit about that handsome boy, Indy. Then we started thinking about getting Dixie on the road to home with Katie. With very little words exchanged, Dixie just blossomed right in front of our eyes. She KNEW she was going home with Katie. Dixie had heard the Heart Speak!
