When we sin we must be prepared to face the consequences of our sin. The story of David and Bathsheba shows that even King David had to answer to God for his sins. As the story goes David arranged for Bathseba’s husband Uriah the Hittite to be sent to the front line so that he was killed in battle. After this the prophet Nathan came to David to announce God’s displeasure with David. The first consequence of David’s sin was that the child that he bore with Bathsheba died. Another consequence of David’s sin was that years later his daughter Tamar was raped by her half brother Amnon and Amnon was subsequently killed by his brother Absalom. Absalom eventually tried to seize the kingdom from David. Absalom even made love to Davids concubine in the sight of all Israel All of this was the result of David’s sin. From this story we should be aware of the fact that our sins have consequences for us and could also have consequences for future generations of our family. Through our obedience to God’s word we can be responsible for generational blessings. But through our sins and trespasses we can be responsible for generational curses.
