When we speak as though any attempt to constructively critique a friend, co-worker, family member, etc, is being mean or nasty, or rude, we create a culture where we can not communicate effectively. Constructive critique is a gift and should be received and given as such. Now it takes some practice to do this well, but we can all start by separating being mean from honestly trying to help someone improve themselves or their work.
