When we take in a Rescue or Rehab we put it thru a complete evaluation. We start with our Amazing Farrier Johnathan Porter, then we have Sheree Still of SS Horse Power Equine Body Work come out. Dixie Brauer does our Teeth under the guidance of Dr Kane from Care Animal Hospital. Most need several farrier visits to get them back to a balanced state, then Sheree to get their bodies also balanced. Teeth usually are the cause of a lot of issues, and most of these horses havent had them done in years. Then, after all this we start their work schedule. Why you ask? Because you can not ride a horse who has hoof issues, teeth issues or his back out or some other body issue. Most have some sort of old injury that needs re hab and Physical therapy. The horses are not fed a cheap diet. We feed either Alfalfa, T/A or a Timothy. We also are a Manna Pro Barn and have been for 30+ years. They are eating Super Horse 10 or a Senior feed as per their requirements. Maxi Glo is added as a fat supplement. If they need a Joint or other supplement, Smart Pak is our go to. Plus, we have 2 trainers who can re train, desensitize, school, start aged unbroke horses, evaluate the horses best suited discipline, gauge how much training the horse has had and where it needs to go. Know this - All thin horses are friendly, gentle and easy going. The Real horse comes out after he gets fat, feeling good again, his feet no longer hurting, his teeth no longer cutting into his cheeks and no more parasites eating him up from the insides. We do not adopt to people who have never had horses. I really dislike repeating the process for the horses. WE owe these horses that for all the time and care we put into them to get them to trust us again, become willing partners, enjoy human contact and want to share space with us. After all this we now evaluate them and start training them for our Equine Assisted Therapy Program or finding them an understanding home.
