When we take the time tomorrow to give honor to those who have - TopicsExpress

When we take the time tomorrow to give honor to those who have served and continue to do so do not forget that 96 years ago tomorrow at the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month the guns fell silent on the western front, then celebrated as Armistice Day. A question that I get asked quite often, as some on here get asked also, is am I sorry that I spent nearly half my life serving in the military, nearly 26 years. Though the answer to that question is one that you as an individual is your own to make, but take this into consideration. There are not that many organizations in the world where you can find yourself beside someone you dont know from a can of paint yet you will willingly place your life in their hands as they would you. With the exception of Law Enforcement, there are few if any organizations where when the call comes for help items are dropped and you do everything humanly possible to get there to help as fast as you can, even at the risk of your life. I think about the joy that must have been felt by those Soldiers in the trenches 96 years ago when the guns fell silent for the horror and terror that they had seen and felt could never be described by anyone unless you bare witness to it yourself. Those same horrors were witnessed by countless others from that day forward through WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Kuwait, Iraq, and Afghanistan with countless places in between. The most unique thing about the military for all of us, if we really think about it, is the names and faces change but the characters we all have had the privilege to have been around dont. There will always be the platoon or squad clown, the gung ho guy, the whiners and criers, and the guy who always tries to get over. Always remember, whether you served in peace or war, you are a unique piece in the puzzle that makes our Armed Forces the envy of the world. My answer to the question, you better believe it, I would not trade what I have seen, who I served with, and where I served for anything under the canopy of heaven. Have a blessed Veterans Day tomorrow and never forget those who went before you and those who are in the boots you wore years ago. 1SG Zetwo
