When we were at Pugs in the Park on Sunday, we visited with the vet there because we were concerned about Bugs mouth. Shes always has some sort of issue with her mouth since we got her (mostly bad breath) but after just getting her teeth cleaned (as well as 6 extractions) about 6months ago, the bad breath was back and she was starting to drool a lot more than normal, and there was blood in her drool also. After the vet looked her over, she recommended we bring her in as soon as possible for a more in depth examination. After bringing her in, the vet diagnosed her with a mouth disease that essentially makes her mouth allergic to either plaque or enamel. This is more commonly seen in cats, but it can occur in dogs as well. The only practical solution is to have the majority (and probably in the end, all) of her remaining teeth extracted. We immediately set up an appointment for the first available time they had to be able to do her dental procedure...which, is today. Im sure she will be fine, but she will have a long recovery im sure. The vet said they might even need to keep her overnight depending on how well she is doing once they finish. So last night, Bug got some extra cuddles and love. Ill post an update once the vet calls to update me. I know she will be fine - I just feel really bad that she is going to have to loose her teeth. Hopefully though, after all the dental work is done and her mouth is all healed up and not bothering her anymore, she will be living a much happier (and pain free) life!
