When working in the States at customer sites, I ran into a few of these actually. In Pueblo (Colorado), they were amazed that we had indoor toilets: I thought everyone had to use outhouses there -- only in Toronto I replied. :-) And as a high school student working at a Nova Scotia fish plant in the summer, yes we would see tourists (stopping at the plant to buy cheap lobster) from the Carolinas coming through with skies on their roof racks and wanted to know where our ski hills were (this was in 90F+ August days). When we disappointed them by saying there was no skiing in the summer in Nova Scotia, they (often) soon brightened up and asked well, where do we go then to see the eskimos and igloos? Once on a flight home from Toronto to Vancouver, I sat beside an American woman who said she was a high school teacher. Whenever we travel, I make sure I tell my children about the history of the areas we drive through. But when we drove across the [Canadian] prairies, I couldnt tell them anything because you dont have any history up here. Later she also told me how the US defeated the British in the war of 1812 (well, true for some of the battles? after British had captured Washington DC and burnt the White House) but that the US was kind to Canada and let us keep our country. Gee, thanks.
