When you begin a conversation on the premise that the guy youre talking to cant possibly understand your side of it, there is nowhere for the conversation to go. We all have eyes and ears and minds and all our perspectives have a degree of validity. We must not let our preconceptions obstruct us from constructive dialogue. Ive learned to treat every stranger like a blank slate, with a tendency to be shady so I dont get taken advantage of. No combination of traits bypasses this initial mistrust. Plus if I refused to challenge peoples ideas just because they come from a marginalized group, that would be the greatest condescension I could ever perpetrate. Think on that one.
