When you book with a travel agency, expect a 30% or more mark-up. - TopicsExpress

When you book with a travel agency, expect a 30% or more mark-up. I was absolutely shocked. Heres the breakdown, as I thought it was REALLY interesting. Expedia: $791 - Not including dining or tickets. Non-stop flights + the room we wanted at the Art of Animation, (a value, but good resort.) Free bus to Disney. Disney Tickets will be an additional: $386.60 Were on our own for meals. With Disney Tickets, our total is: $1177.60 (That leaves us $408.00 to splurge on food to meet even the lowest next quote.) Disney Official reservations: Total: $1586 for the SAME package, (same hotel, same room and same flights. I had them double-check.) Only difference is the meal-plan. They were about 10% higher on everything, (flights and hotel.) There are 1-hour additional magic hours if we used this. They were hard sellers, (Dont hang up! You may not get this rate again!) The following are the written quotes I received from travel agencies in my area: Same hotel. Same room. Same flight. Lots of confusion. Travel Leaders: Total: $1900 (Snort.) (They werent awesome to work with.) Carlson Wagonlit: (Keep in mind: Same flights, same hotel, same room.) (They couldnt get us a 2-day park pass.) No dining plan included. $1393.40 They were better to work with. Some Tips I Found: If you book through an outside company, you CANNOT add a meal plan to your reservation. You can buy park tickets off discount sites, MouseSavers has a few. You can also buy passes at the gate. Its low-season, so Im not worried about the line. I didnt think the meal-plan was worth $408. Im cheap. If you want a meal plan, the best bet is the plus-dining meal. (Which comes with one table service meal per night. And a refillable mug. Wahoo for mugs!) I spent probably 2 hours on the phone today with travel agencies. Im now (almost) a pro. Travel Leaders tried to explain to us that Magic Express, (a shuttle service) was costing about $100.00 extra. (I called them out on that.) That is incorrect. Magic Express is free for ANY guest staying in hotel. They apologized and cited they had wrong information. Overall, unless you want a meal plan, Expedia or calling Disney directly is your best bet.
