When you care deeply for someone who appreciates who you are and all you do for them, you are filled with a peace, joy, and satisfaction that is incredibly sweet. Its a real blessing when you have that kind of relationship with others. If were going to love like Jesus, the truth is well find that there will be occasions when our flesh doesnt enjoy our decision to walk in the Spirit. It will involve being patient when we feel extremely exasperated. Well have opportunities to give mercy to folks who deserve judgment. Well even have to accept the fact that occasionally well be rejected and abused for doing whats right. Why would we continue to love individuals who treat us like garbage? The reason for that is the Lord desires and even requires his children to be imitators of Him and He is good to those who do evil. Obviously theres a limit as to how much of ourselves we should offer to people who dont care or respond to our efforts, but generally speaking, we need to give more than we would like to. How much like Jesus do you aspire to be when the going gets rough and loving someone costs you a lot more than you thought possible? Are you willing to allow the Holy Spirit to stretch you in this ever-so-important area of your life? This is My commandment, that you love one another just as I have loved you. (John 15:12)
