When you feel ashamed about your struggle with food, or weight, or - TopicsExpress

When you feel ashamed about your struggle with food, or weight, or eating issues -> you often believe that your issues are a sign that you are weak, lazy, flawed, defective, unworthy etc. And too often the fitness and diet industries and their deaf and dumb “experts” reinforce this notion to you as well. But shame has heavy consequences and is a heavy emotional burden to bear. If you cycle shame and guilt about these issues, you are less likely to seek real help, because you fret that other people will judge and shame you for having these issues. So you once again “retreat into food.” You worry and stress that sharing some of the darker emotions and thoughts you have that go along with these issues, will just lead to more rejection. You often believe someone else can’t understand the way YOU specifically, suffer your issues. This is how the “phantom menace” of these issues controls your mind. So you keep trying diet after diet – dealing with “symptoms” and not causes – and then when you fail at the diet, or the diet fails you – it just reinforces your self-judgment and shame cycle – and it all begins again. bit.ly/uLavWU
