When you have a child I dont think you realize how many teaching moments you will have with them and how they present themselves. LOL .. #GaberielsTeachingMomentOfTheWeek Me: Hey baby so I heard you made a new friend out there? (Hes still in Maryland at grandma and grandpas) Gabe: *hesitation in is voice* weeeeeeell mom I dont know if you can say that. Me: What? Why? What happened? Gabe: (still hesitant) Nothing happened mom. Me: Well then whats wrong? Gabe: well hes not really my type of person. Me: *raises eyebrows and grins appreciating the fact he is trying his hardest not to say anything negative when describing this kid* Okay why is that? Gabe: *in the most matter of fact blunt as blunt can be* mom hes too fruity for me Me: *jaw drops holding back giggles at the struggle he was going through to find a way to describe it without sounding bad and failing miserably* Silence for a good minute while I gather what Im going to say. Me: Okay Gaberiel first of all you know we dont use those words to describe people. Gaberiel: Yes mom I know I was trying but I couldnt find a good word. Me: I understand, what you should have done was explain the situation and describe him by what made you guys different. Now with that being said just because he is different from you and doesnt like doing the same boyish things as you doesnt mean you cant be friends with him. Dont judge him so quickly. Be nice to him because you know I dont tolerate otherwise. He might not be what you think he is. He just might be a boy who doesnt like playing sports ... you might find out he loves music, art, the environment. Just hang tight youve only met him once. See how things unfold and just be cool. This is the only time you are going to get a warning about the language though. Do better please sir. We accept everyone their differences and all. Gaberiel: Yes mom I will be nice to him and give him a chance. I will work on better words and ways to express myself. Me: *holding back a giggle at his such matter of factness* Thank you baby. You make me a proud mama. I love you and miss you. Take care of your grandpa for me. If he does too much work and it looks like hes in pain from his back you tell him your mom says to stop and take a break and if you have to call me and I will whip him into shape. Gaberiel: Okay mom I will take care of him and work hard helping him. Love you and miss you too. Me: Bye baby ... *hangs up* That kid I tell you. He makes my heart just melt. I feel like I am navigating waters on a daily basis with him. Hes the ship and Im the captain telling him where to go. Its hard to do it in a way that doesnt crush his spirit, make him feel embarrassed, can teach him, and make him feel like he can always come to me and still be the right way.
