When you head to the pump on January first 2015, expect to pay more for gasoline in California. Its part of what some are calling a hidden gas tax. Back in 2006, the legislature and Governor Schwarzenegger passed legislation that sets an absolute statewide limit on greenhouse gas emissions. Known as the cap and trade the legislation charges oil companies for going above those limits. The California air resources board estimates the new gas tax will increase the cost of a gallon gas anywhere from 16 cents to 70 cents over the next several years.
