When you live in Chicago, you learn about the late night food scene really fast and you pick a favorite. My friends and I rarely if ever go to Weiners Circle anymore and why would we? My neighborhood is home to the mighty, mighty Five Faces and there is really no reason to go anywhere else. For locals, going to Five Faces is as natural an act as putting on your favorite pair of jeans. For those who are not from here, it can be a little overwhelming. Its too small to dine in comfortably. The customers are mostly a sloppy drunk mess. If you are not vigilant, somebody WILL try to purloin your food order and start a fight when you call them on it. But the food! The food is pure late night drunken perfection. To me, the showpiece item is the double cheeseburger on pita bread or the Double Cheetah Peeseburger. You can also never go wrong with the Gyros (Yee-Ros NOT JY-Ros), tacos or Italian Combo (Italian Beef and Sausage mix) with hot gardiniera. Ive been a fan since 1986 and I also eat there more often when sober than drunk.
