When you open up your emails, and this is waiting in your inbox...it gives new hope. Young people making an effort and having powerful views and wills....this makes you believe that AWARENESS campaigns are getting somewhere. We will keep going! Good evening Mandie, I extend to you my sincere apologies for the (very) delayed action. I have transferred the amount of R2 486 to Little Fighters. Heres the story of our cancer awareness campaign and fundraiser: A friend of mine bought a purple ribbon representing general cancers from a CANSA Shavathon, and when we told people what it represents, their replies were But doesnt a pink ribbon represent cancer?. I was quite disturbed by the ignorance of some, and after speaking to my classmates, we decided that we were going to do something about it. After much debate and discussion, we decided that, at school, we will sell different colored ribbons, each representing a type of cancer, attached to cards with information regarding each type, respectively. These were the cancers that we chose: Breast cancer - pink Testicular cancer - purple Ovarian cancer - teel Lung cancer - white Melanoma - black Colorectal cancer - navy Renal cancer - green Leukaemia - orange Bladder cancer - yellow Childhood cancers - gold In addition to that, we decided to host a cupcake sale. The total proceeds would be donated to a cancer-related organization. Eye catching posters concerning symptoms and preventative methods for the cancers were printed and put up in school. In order to educate the students at our school even more, we asked their teachers to play videos regarding cancer to their classes. Our awareness campaign was named “Kicking Cancer to the Curb” and our color was purple, representing general cancers. While surfing the net, we stumbled upon Little Fighters and after scanning its website, we decided that it would be the ideal beneficiary of our funds. We wish Little Fighters all the best in the years to come and hope that we will be of some assistance to the struggle against cancer again. Together, we can kick cancer to the curb! Yours sincerely Grade 11 class of Islamic College Newcastle THANK YOU to the Grade 11 Class of Islamic College Newcastle, Teachers, Parents and ALL who Supported their efforts! You guys ROCK!
