When you read God’s word, how do you respond? It’s easy to - TopicsExpress

When you read God’s word, how do you respond? It’s easy to read the promises and respond like Zach did in the scripture below, “How do I really know that’s written for me?” The angel was trying to tell him that his prayers were heard and he was going to give birth to a son that would become known as “John the Baptist.” Instead of receiving the message with joy, Zach began to speak of his current circumstances and all the reasons it couldn’t happen. The angel had to get Zach to shut his mouth in order for the plan of God to be fulfilled. Luke 1:18 Zachariah said to the angel, How can I be sure this will happen? Im an old man now, and my wife is also well along in years. 19 And the angel answered and said to him, I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and was sent to speak to you and bring you these glad tidings. 20 But behold, you will be mute and not able to speak until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words which will be fulfilled in their own time. The conversation between Zach and the angel sounds more like a conversation between my kids and me!… “If you don’t shut your mouth and you keep talking, you’re really going to be in trouble!” All too often I’m like Zach in this story… I read God’s promises but I respond with, “I’m not sure this applies to me” and so, my words get in the way of God’s plans. Our response to God’s promises should be like the response that Mary gave when she was told that she would give birth to the Son of God… Mary responded, I am the Lords servant. May everything you have said about me come true.- Luke 1:38
