When your kid calls you out and makes you a better Dad..... Im lying in bed with my son, getting him to sleep. Weve already had a bit of a blow up thats why we are here. Im feeling a bit fed up with bedtime by this point and start fiddling with my phone...My son starts swishing his hands around and making noises. I know this well. Its his imaginary light sabre, he spends most of the day with it in his fantasy Star Wars world. I give it a couple of minutes and then say can you stop that please... He ignores me. So I give it a couple more minuets then say again, (probably sounding slightly more frustrated) can you stop it please. Settle down its bedtime. You have school tomorrow and I dont want you to be tired ...I am starting to sound like grumpy dad now. Then my boy says, Well daddy, I was only doing it because I was hoping you would give me some attention. I wanted you to stop playing with your phone. I really just want you to give me a cuddle Thats when it dawns on me..,Oh sorry, I should have been able to figure that out! Sometimes I just get a bit tired and distracted I say. Dont worry dad he says, just give me a cuddle, we dont always get everything right when were learning Thats me...still learning. He knows me so well..,.so good to get some straight up honest feedback on my parenting skills! :-) -Ollie-
