Whenever I have the severe signs of the disease called nostalgia I have to step into a few diners that have been around since the 1940s In Minneapolis to cure this ailment. The Ideal Diner opened its doors in 1949. (The first photo) and is still in business. When I first moved here to Minneapolis I discovered this diner. After ordering a fantastic hot beef sandwich and mashed potatoes and then topping it off with homemade apple pie, the elderly waitress came over and saw that I was going to leave some of the pie crust. She explained in a gruff voice - EAT YOUR CRUST! ... such golden memories. The second photo is of the Convention Grill that has stayed open since 1941. No retro creation of a diner here, the original highback wooden booths are still there and some of the other artifacts remain. Some of the best malts around!
