Whenever I make the case for why it is the duty of every person who is able to do activism, I cite the fact that literally MILLIONS OF PEOPLE DIE - simply BECAUSE THEY ARE POOR - but WE HAVE ENOUGH in this world to make sure that everyone is okay. My social work textbook said for every 100 children born, 30 are malnourished before 5 years old, 40 dont have adequate sanitation, and 17 will never go to school. One of the social justice efforts in which Im most proud of participating in my life is my work to END HUNGER AND EXTREME POVERTY with a beautiful group called RESULTS. RESULTS is a coordinated grassroots citizens advocacy organization that directly lobbies members of Congress and the media to shift a portion of our tiny development aid budget nationally and internationally toward programs and institutions with proven success in sustainable development for all our brothers and sisters worldwide. I worked with RESULTS for 6 years and I miss it terribly. As busy as I am, and although I dont have much time to contribute, I am attending the RESULTS Georgia re-start meeting TOMORROW, SUNDAY, SEPT. 28 at 1:30PM at McCray Tavern, 100 North Perry St, Lawrenceville, GA, 30046 (compromise location between Atlanta and Athens). There has been an incredible amount of work done worldwide, with the Millennium Development Goals etc, to end hunger and poverty, and its within our grasp.
