Whenever I post one of my songs or anything positive about whatever is happening my world, I always feel like I need to address this. For whatever reason, most people, just about without exception, grow up wishing that they had some kind of musical talent. When I lived in Vail, Colorado in the 80s, I played lots of corporate events every year and had CEOs of Fortune 500 Companys tell me that they would trade anything to be able to do what I was doing. It always sounded good but I also always suspected that if it actually came down to the financially secure guy having to swap places with the struggling guy, that there might be some balking going on. :) Weve all heard the Feast or Famine analogy. Well, most people I know, that play and write music for a living, are far more familiar with the Famine end of it. You ought to see the look on a bankers face when they scan over a loan application and see the words Musician or Songwriter written on it. Its the exact same look you would get if you wrote down the words Serial Killer. Every person on Earth is given a talent and no ones is any better than anyone elses, IMHO. Yes, a lot of practice has to go into the musical stuff but theres also genetics involved. If you have an Ear for it, you can get better and better. If you dont, unfortunately, I personally dont think any amount of schooling or lessons is going to change that. However, please dont let that discourage you. Many in that position have still found ways to become major Pop and Country stars. :) The truth is, if youre out there plumbing, nursing, accounting, working a desk job, delivering pizzas etc..youre doing a noble thing in providing a living for those you love. I just hope that all of you find a way to reach your full potential. Im still trying to reach mine. I guess all we can do is take whatever gifts were given in life and try to use them to the best of our abilities. I always think that Im one year away from delivering pizzas myself and if so, Ill do it. I may not like it but dadgum it, Ill do it. :)
