Whenever I read about muslims living in the west critiquing - TopicsExpress

Whenever I read about muslims living in the west critiquing western foreign policy and exposing the plans of the colonial governments there always seems to be the following comment resonating from journalists, politicians and other general members of the public alike: "[if you feel that way about western foreign policy] why do you live in the west and enjoy the various freedoms available to you?" There are a number of inconsistencies with this statement: #Firstly, one would think that a society touted as "free" would allow a fair discussion. What is essentially being said by the above statement is "well if you dont agree, then you can leave". Such an atmosphere is proof that one view is imposed on the populace and all other arguments are not intellectually allowed to be discussed and bullied into silence. #Secondly, there seems to be a lack of foresight into history. The reason that muslims are in the west is due to that fact that centuries of colonization took place whereby an elitest system was imposed on muslims by the British, French and other governments and lackey governments were installed that only fulfilled the interests of their western master. The imposing of democracy/dictatorship on muslim lands on fulfilled the vested interests of the elite and the very basic needs of the people were not fulfilled. Post world war two, the colonial nations (i.e Britain) begged for people from former colonies to emigrate and work in the industry to make up for the shortage of workers that were lost in the war. For some reason the above history which changed the natural course of a region into drastic turmoil seems to be forgotten. #Thirdly, an assumption is made in the above statement that "freedoms" are a good thing and are thus enjoyed. I would like to point out that "freedoms" here does not connote "freedom from abuse and oppression" rather conceptually a "absolute freedom to do what you want". This freedom removes any concept of right and wrong and results in unprecedented social breakdown. Do we enjoy the fact that there are 900 rapes a week in Britain (we shouldnt leave the house at this rate) or that theres a stabbing every 4 minutes or so, or that a huge proportion of the population is taking anti depressants or that a pandemic amount of children are being born in broken homes? The sad truth is that the populace are victims of this concept of being told that they are absolutely free and being made to bear the burden of recession in paying taxes that constitute almost 70% of anything they buy. Also do we enjoy seeing this "freedom" destroy whole countries and kill hundreds and thousands of people in Iraq and Afghanistan? All in all, Muslims have not been afforded self-determination in their own affairs. Whether it be the situation in Syria where the colonial governments seek to malign the image of those that are suffering just to fulfill their interests, or in other places like Pakistan, Egypt and Bangladesh where you have western agents ruling who will outright kill anyone who seeks to establish the will of the people (Islam) via intellectual means.
