Whenever possible, I tried to capture the human element of railroading on film. This is the operator at CSXs (former B&O) HO Tower at Hancock, West Virginia in August 1989. I think I used a fixed 300mm zoom, Kodachrome 64 and a tripod to get this. The guy wasnt particularly interested in what I was doing, so hes working away, rather than posing for a photo. You can tell the difference. And of course, the tower is closed today, demolished, and all gone. Shoot stuff whenever you can, because things change constantly (and usually not for the better!).
