Whenever price on public utilities ( train, electricity, water, posts, telephone , etc ) and / or taxes are increased ; it is obviously disliked by affected sections. And, if prices are reduced ; or taxes decreased, it is welcomed by beneficiaries. Everyone wants to pay less tax and less price ( thus, to bear less burden of public expenditure ). But , in public finance , revenues and expenses must approximately balance. If we want public expenditure, matching resources must be raised through taxes and price of public utilities. Increase of tax or price rise means affected persons must bear more burden of public expenditure ; but the increased revenues go to finance public expenditure. So, when taxes and / or price of public utilities are hiked : what needs to be seen is whether all concerned are bearing a fair burden of public expenditure. If its fair; there shouldnt be any politics over it.
