Whenever the insipid tinkering of organized religion gets it hands into something and claims ownership of it, division is sure to follow. I agree with the school district that they should not solely bear the cost of simply enforcing a state mandated law. On the other hand, they are the end result of that law and the actual agents in stigmatizing dissenters to a pledge towards an orthodox Christian deity. As much as the defendants want to argue God is simply a patriotic reaffirmation to flag and county, the fact is it was deliberately inserted by religious interests both as a religious test and an effort at proselytization of western Christianity. If the original author of the pledge, Francis Bellamy, a socialist baptist minister had no incentive to insert the word of God, then why keep repeating the mistakes of 1954 when Catholic interests and anti-Communist furor managed to screw things up with an otherwise decent document? app/story/news/education/in-our-schools/2014/11/19/matawan-aberdeen-pledge-allegiance/19274999/
