Whenever the issue of insecurity is raised, I always get alarmed - TopicsExpress

Whenever the issue of insecurity is raised, I always get alarmed when I hear some naïve klisers trying to romanticise the kleptomaniac farce that was Moi’s regime; they go as far as saying that during Moi’s dictatorship, at least there was ‘security’ I always forgive them under the assumption that those who make such claims are kids born in 90s. Do people really realise what Moi’s regime was all about? During Moi’s farce, terrorism hadn’t properly taken root. Al-Shetani was virtually non existent. Criminals weren’t as bold as they are now as the small arms market had not properly taken root. As August 98 clearly demonstrates Moi’s regime was as clueless as a cow when it came to terrorism. The sheer corruption of his regime couldn’t stop terrorists if they felt like attacking the country. Only that even Osama hadn’t fully evolved into the devil that he later became. In fact it’s during Moi’s regime that armed robbers robbed banks at will. Insecurity was rampant but as it is, Kenyans have very poor memory. The other disturbing issue is the claim that Moi held the country ‘together’. When someone makes such an observation, the assumption is there were tribes/people who wanted to secede. Which ones are those? Someone tell me. Moi never held the country together; no single community wanted to secede. Fear was the instrument that the regime employed to ‘hold’ the country together. Oh yes, he held the country ‘together’ in order to loot- I can accept that. Do Kenyans realise the kind of corrupt deals that took place under Moi? Do Kenyans realise that when Kibaki took over, the economy was virtually grounded? Do Kenyans realise that even today, Swiss banks are overflowing with dollars looted during Moi’s watch? Kenyans claim that at least Kenya never went the way of many African countries(coups, civil wars). Yes, but keep in mind that politically Kenyans are cowards/indifferent so that when the country was busy being raped, very few Kenyans could stand up and speak out. Today, if Uhuru’s regime stole 500 billion from the government coffers, Kenyans will make noise for one week then forget about the issue. Kenyans are very individualistic and don’t really care who is looting and this made it possible for Moi regime to thrive even when it had embraced corruption as its creed. I’d even be surprised if I hear kikuyus romanticising Moi’s comedy especially when one considers what the community went through in 1992. So, for all that is good and holy, please let no one claim that there was peace under Moi. Its simply BS. And if I may ask: Why was Moi not prosecuted? OOOH, I get it: ‘we forget and move on’ . Great. moi was just lucky terrorism and radicalisation had not evolved into what it is today Mzee Moi messed the police, messed intelligence and completely killed our civil service by pure mismanagement. a whole generation got lost for life. when Kibaki took over, hata Harambee ave had huge craters. bank interest rates was 35%. The biggest employer was government because private sector was limping. Mtu alikua anapigwa ngeta Kenyatta ave. sea of hawkers on streets. alshabaab was being conceived and sounded off their conception at Haile Selassie Ave. na mengine mengi. anybody who thinks Mois days were good anahitaji risasi ya tako
