Where I would like to be in the next five years Growing up as a child I’ve always envisioned myself living in another country helping others and being a part of a small community. I often dream of going on great adventures across the sea and living out my wildest fantasies. I’m such a dreamer. Yet these very dreams have brought me this far and I’m ready to start my journey. My five year plan is to finish college and find a job where I feel that I can make a difference in a person’s life and be a service to my community wherever I live. I must say, I never really gave going to college much of a thought but now I view it as a stepping stone into my new future and dreams. Nevertheless, I’ve always questioned myself a lot about my age; was I smart enough? The hardest part of my journey so far was just getting enough courage to go up to the college and sign up for the classes. My biggest fear was taking the placement test because for so many years I’ve always tried to hide my spelling and reading problems. Furthermore, by taking these tests I knew my issues would be brought to light. However I did manage to push myself and make it up to the college to be tested. Oh my God I was so nervous; I couldn’t stop worrying about looking dumb in front of my teacher. Well here we go. After the test was over, heart pounding like crazy. While going over my scores with the instructor, I was surprised and relieved to find out that I didn’t do that bad. Wow, maybe after all these years of dreaming my dream may possibly come true. Okay I’m glad that parts over, now my journey begins. Since I work a fulltime job I was wondering how I can make this work. All in all, I’m almost 45 years old now, but age is just a number right? What kind of degree should I try to get? I’ve always loved to read and write; communications has always been one of my stronger points. I really enjoy reading stories about different places and learning about new cultures. Then it hit me, sociology because I love working with all types of people and solving problems. In closing, I truly believe that failure is an option, an option I will never consider. My dreams, my hopes and my happiness are now totally up to me. Lookout world because here I come.
