Where buddha left-> Advait vedant is the supreme book of knowledge which pioneers all other religious scriptures of all sects and religions claiming nirvana(enlightenment). Buddhas philosophy is not complete and because of lack of an objective approach it is close to metaphysics but still is merely philosophy.. In case of the cause of pain the philosophy of buddhism ended where buddha left by simply stating that desires are the cause of pain or sorrow.A philosophy is not complete until the entity revealed or being proved is supreme and universal(in case of spirituality). The biggest fault in buddhism is the fact that it doesnt prove the existence of the universal entity i.e.the aatma...it also claims that this world is real and there is no universality(or there is no aatma).this incompleteness was finely exploited in later vedic period by the missionary of karm mimansa i.e.the kumaril bhatt and the great missionary of advait vedant, jagat guru adi shankar...their restless efforts were a major contributing factor in the fall of buddhism in india and revival of the sanatana dharma or hinduism... Going back...buddha preached in utter sense of conviction that desire is the cause of sorrow...it is not wrong but incomplete...it cannot be final because desires are not universal...they differ with person to person and within one person from time to time...thus they come and go or are subject to growth and decay...the desires therefore are also belonging to this world only as they take birth from worldly means... e.g. a desire to own something or prove something or achieve something are all because of objects belonging to the vyavaharik plane(the realm of unreality).they are not born in parmarthik plane(the realm of reality),where only you exist(free from any dualism of any kind).thus desires are unreal as they are the product of unreal. Buddha did not give complete explanation on the cause of desire(i.e.the cause of sorrow is desire but what is the cause of desire?)...desire cannot be causeless...so here is what advait vedant has to say--> Desire is a sense of incompleteness. To become complete one accepts to be desirous and the result of it is the idea of doership...the purest of all desires(pure because it is the only desire or mother of all desires) is to know the self i.e.the path of spiritual awakening... So what is the means to be complete? The means to be complete is not to become complete but rather to leave the notion that you are incomplete...why? because what believes to be incomplete or believes that it has become complete from prior incompleteness is never complete in universal sense...what comes is bound to go...what rises is bound to set...what is born must die...thus any achieved completeness or fullness in not universal.Since it is confined in space and time later or sooner it will be lost...to be complete you must ever be complete... Having said that, this leads us to a very astonishing conclusion that you are ever complete and what was incomplete or what was urging to become complete was never you... Advait vedant does not stop here it gives a very strong intellectual evidence to support this... Firstly, you can never see or transact with yourself(a universal fact with respect to aatma, need not be proved). Secondly, you believe yourself to be incomplete. Here are two points going to prove the falsity of the second statement: 1.since self can never be seen and you believe the self to be incomplete...you musnt be aware of any incompleteness since it is an attribute of the self...since the incomplete(or the so called self)cannot be aware of the incompleteness...but this is contrary to fact that you are totally aware of it...not only you are aware of it but adopting the measures to counter it i.e.urging to become complete. 2.The first statement cannot be false as it is a universal fact.It dominates the second statement(as what is believed can be false). Again self or aatma is unborn(since it is attributeless),thereby it can never be the result of or taking birth from a belief...it is unnegotiable, irreferrable(totally absent from worldly transactions),and can never be proved(since it is the only entity). Hence, the finality is achieved and universality proved. You are ever the self unchanging.Becoming complete does not hold any significance to you(the aatma or self)as you are ever complete. Completeness is never qualified or achieved by self.Just like warmth is the very nature of fire,in the same way, being complete is the very nature of aatma or the self...
