Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your - TopicsExpress

Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? (Psalm 139:7) “What do I do about wandering thoughts when I pray?” That’s another question I’ve been asked repeatedly. A wandering attention simply tells us that our minds are on other things. Why not talk to God about what’s really commanding our attention? Whatever our minds drift off to is an indication of what we really need to ask for help to solve or conquer. But what about unpleasant thoughts or fantasies? They indicate a deeper need beneath the surface. Allow God to gently probe the cause. We are like a ball of yarn with one strand protruding. The Lord gets hold of that and begins to unravel us. Since He knows all about us, He’s never surprised. Why do we think we can hide anything from Him? There is no place we can go, even into the depths of ourselves, where He’s not there waiting for us. Prayer is not an argument with God to persuade Him to move things our way, but a conversation in which we are enabled by His Spirit to move ourselves His way.
