Where do you find peace in the midst of the storm? Maybe youre going through a difficult time right now: a marriage problem, or a crisis with your child or grandchild, or a health problem. Maybe youre fighting an addiction. Or maybe youve looked at the news and youre worried about where this world is going. Where do you find peace . . . in the midst of the storm? 1. God is our Creator. Worship Him. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth, Genesis 1: 1. So simple. And yet we often forget about God. In heaven they worship God 24/7: You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being, Revelation 4: 11, NIV. You will find peace in the storm when you focus on God as Creator and worship Him. 2. God is our Father. Love Him. Jesus said, Hear! Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, all your strength; love your neighbor as yourself, Mark 12: 29--31. In the midst of your storm today, the Father speaks directly to you: I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty, 2 Corinthians 6: 18. 3. God is our Savior. Surrender to Him. That if you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved, Romans 10: 9. You will not have peace until youre sure of your salvation. 4. God is our Judge. Fear Him. As I looked, thrones were set in place, and the Ancient of Days took His seat. His clothing was as white as snow; the hair of His head was white like wool. His throne was flaming with fire, and its wheels were all ablaze. A river of fire was flowing, coming out from before Him. Thousands upon thousands attended Him; ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him. The court was seated, and the books were opened, Daniel 7: 9--10. How can people get away with murder, child abuse, rape, torture? They wont. In the end the Ancient of Days will judge. By the way, Ancient of Days, is a title for God thats found only three times in the Bible; all three are in Daniel chapter 7. 5. God is our only hope. Believe in Him. If you examine whats happening in this world, you see, wars and rumors of war, and a lot of evil. But we have hope. When the Lord comes back, He will establish His kingdom, where there will be no more evil, no more pain, no more war, no more death. If you have God, you have hope. May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit, Romans 15: 13. The older I get, the more I listen to the old hymns, and reflect on them: O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come, Our shelter from the stormy blast, and our eternal home! Before the hills in order stood, or earth received her frame, From everlasting thou art God, to endless years the same. O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come; Be thou our guide while like shall last, and our eternal home! --O God, our Help in Ages Past, Isaac Watts (1674--1748). The Word of God for the people of God . . . [You can hear todays sermon this morning at 9:30 AM, on WFSP, 107.7 FM and 1560 AM].
