• Where do you get your protein? I would have to say this is easily the most asked question of any vegetarian and vegan. It’s surprisingly not difficult to get your daily recommended amount of protein. The average person needs 50 grams of protein per day, minimum. As someone who is trying to lose weight I up my requirement to about 90 grams of protein a day. To get this, I make sure to have my daily protein shake. As a vegan, there are many protein shake sources. You can get pea protein or soy protein. I’m sure there are other options out there but those seem to be the most popular choices. I also eat a lot of leafy greens, tofu, nuts and seeds. Beans can also be a great source of protein but, I don’t like them personally so I avoid those. Some vegetables high in protein include: green peas (1 cup contains 7.9 grams), quinoa (8 grams per cup), kidney beans (1 cup has 10 grams), chickpeas (1/2 cup has 7.3 grams), tempeh and tofu (both have 20 grams per 1 cup), boiled edamame (8.4 grams per half cup), sunflower seeds (7.3 grams per quarter cup), and seitan (36 grams per cup!!!!). • But animals in the wild kill animals and compared to that we are saints! This is true. We’ve all watched Lion King. The antelopes eat the grass and then the lions eat the antelope. The lions do not breed billions of antelope per year and raise them in factory farms only to be systematically murdered and then packaged up so they can go to the lion grocery store and pick up antelope steaks. I don’t know about you, but animals in the wild also roll around in poop, mark their territory with urine, eat their young, and lick their baby’s anuses to get them to defecate. Just because other animals do it, does not mean we need to. As a species we have evolved to the point where we can get our full nutrients from other sources. We have year round access to a multitude of fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains, nondairy milk and even faux meat options if you’re into it. I prefer not to take my moral teachings from wild animals. From benchpressbarbie.tumblr/
