Where do your ideas come from? I generally answer that question - TopicsExpress

Where do your ideas come from? I generally answer that question with, I dont really know, but Im glad they come! That answer usually works, people laugh and move on, but I have to admit that its a bit disingenuous. My ideas - my creativity - come from everything Ive ever seen, and everything Ive ever done. The only original bit is how I put those things together. I might take a swirling line from Erte, color combinations from G.H. Rothe, a bit of delicacy from my memory of a Rembrandt sketch, a lacy stitch from an unknown lacemaker, a mandala from a memory of a sand painting that was created and destroyed in a day, blossoms from my cherry tree, and countless other bits and pieces; they sit in my mind and when I play with my beads they are there; unnamed, unrecognized, unacknowledged, but THERE - and the ideas come. I call them my ideas because I had them, but they are not without ancestors. Some of the ancestors of my ideas are quite possibly reading this right now. Yes, YOU. Your pictures, your work, and your words are in my bubbling pot of a brain, too. So thank you, all of you. I love having so many creative people in my world; you make it a better place.
