Where is our memory? On the 1st of January 2012, President Jonathan announced the total removal fuel of fuel subsidy and subsequent increase in the price to #140 per litre. Millions of us Nigerians trooped out especially at Gani Fawehimi park at Ojota, Lagos, sacrificing our time and energy to reject the draconian and callous policy and subsequently put the nation on lock down for about 2 weeks, paralyzing its economy, insisting on the reversal to what it was (#65) during the regime of late Yaradua. At the end of the day, it was partially removed and the price set at #120 per litre on ground, while #97 per litre on paper. This is even when professional analysts has come out to challenge the government and said to the whole world that there was nothing like subsidy, except a conduit pipe in which our money was being frittered away. The most revealing and painful of all this was that there were some set of people who formed a cabal around the government and NNPC to perpetrate the scam of the century all in the name of subsidy where Nigeria which paid about #500 billion for subsidy in 2009, suddenly paid above #2 trillion naira in 2011. The message was clear back then, the subsidy thieves must be exposed to all Nigerians and they must go to jail. Under pressure, our presumed inept government quickly set-up a committee to unearth the massive scam of the century which went on in NNPC under the watch of our ever glib minister Diezani Allison. The man who was brought in to head the probe committee back then was former EFCC boss MALLAM NUHU RIBADU, and after all the investigations, the report exposing the massive scam that went down in NNPC to impoverish Nigerians was submitted to the C-in-C. Subsequently our amiable anti-graft czar Ribadu went to the press to tell Nigerians lots of secrets on how some people have been milking us dry. We took note of it and insisted that the report must not be thrown into the Aso-villa dustbin as was previous reports. Once again the message was loud and clear back then, the subsidy thieves must be exposed to all Nigerians and they must go to jail. Fast forward to 2014, just above 2 years after, and the story is beginning to change. First some Nigerians have forgotten so quickly, second, which is the most surprising of all is that the man who unearthed the massive subsidy scam under a government that nearly sent Nigeria into pandemonium has now remembered he had some unfinished business he needs to settle among them. If not for anything sake, the fact that 2 years on, the subsidy thieves are still walking freely and intensifying there acts of stealing Nigeria dry, even after Nigerians discovered the scam, is something that should prick a man with conscience who really has his fellow citizens at heart. But what do we know, there are some people who prefer the status-quo to continue, even though they dont get a share of the big cake and theyre also suffering from the mess in government, their reasons are sometimes pathetic and illogical, and there are some of us who are ready to make sure the alternative platform comes on-board, who are trying and will continue to try their utmost best no matter what, to make sure the current status-quo that thrives in sharing the big cake among a clique dies a painful death through the ballot in 2015. Because we still remember vividly well how our friends and fellow citizens died for this country because of the draconian policy of the government during the protest in 2012, we still remember the death of our friend in the hands of the Police at Yaba, Lagos. Not forgetting the death of our dear compatriots at the hands of the same government all in the name immigration employment. Weve still not talked about the removal of subsidy on kerosene. We have two options in 2015, Stagnation or Change, Joke or Seriousness, Death or Life, Deceit or Fact and, Poverty or Prosperity. It is either you are satisfied with what has been happening since 1999 till date or You desire a change. Nigeria has a date with destiny in 2015.
