Where is the Pulau? Singapore is made up of many islands. Besides the more than 40 Pulau (island in Malay), there are also more than 20 Terumbu and Beting (submerged reef and sandbar in Malay, respectively) in our waters. Unlike islands, these reefs and sandbars do not possess a terrestrial habitat and are always influenced by tides. They emerge only during low tides. The Pulau that we visited yesterday is no where to be seen. The map showed some land but we only saw a Terumbu. :P
