Where was Busenbark ? John and Jane finally set out from Hunterdon - TopicsExpress

Where was Busenbark ? John and Jane finally set out from Hunterdon County, New Jersey, sometime after 1800 in company with other families. Their journey began in a one horse wagon that carried their younger children and what few possessions that could be taken, and this would have included Johns looms. Their destination was Butler County, Ohio. When the long journey was over and the family was somewhat settled, John again took up his weaving trade and found a ready sale for his products of blankets and cloth. By 1811, he was in a position to purchase from William Thomas, 100 acres of what would be prime farmland, once it was cleared , in St Clair Township, Section 1. The cost was $800, and the land was located at the intersection of what today is Wayne-Madison Rd. and Rt 73. It had a wonderful spring on it and a little stream wandered along near its western boundary. (after the Busenbarks residency, this farm remained intact as 100 acres through the subsequent ownership of the Daniel Smith family,, Mrs. R. A. McNair, A.J. McKinney, the Dallas Giles family, and the family of Samuel Flickinger. Mr. Flickinger added 20 acres to the farm around 1918. It was subdivided by Carl and Viviain Gabbard after their purchase in 1967.)
