Where was I on 9/11? In a hotel room in St. Louis, MO. We were taking an overnight vacation to take Matthew (then 6-years-old) to the St. Louis Zoo. I had awoken early, trying to be quiet, to catch some news on Good Morning America. The initial report of an explosion at WTC, quickly turned to horror, as calls/pics/video began to come in about a plane hitting the tower. I woke Marjorie. We watched, shocked, as the second plane struck the other tower. Matthew had awoken and we began to process the events with him. Then the reports of the plane hitting the Pentagon...What should we do? We prayed, as many did. We were glued to the news, as many were. We decided to try to distract Matthew by going forward with our plans to see the zoo. I received a call from a member of our church, whose son was in the Pentagon. They hadnt heard from him...we prayed. Not long after that, they learned he was fine. The eeriest part of our day. No planes. The silence was deafening, if you know what I mean. All of our lives changed, that day. We still suffer the effects of it. Our hope is in the Lord.
