Whereas I thank the police to have joined Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) to address the issue of counterfeit goods, I am left to draw conclusions that may be baseless thus; that police (Interpol) is meddling into the work of UNBS, that UNBS has filed to do its work and therefore the Police will take over and that the institutions are weak to manage their operations because police intends to create a unit that will deal with counterfeits. Most importantly UNBS owes us an explanation as to why it must be the police to make statements about counterfeits when the citizens pay taxes to sustain UNBS operations. The Police itsself has a Police Standards Unit but UNBS has never checked police to see if that standards unit meets the national standards or why cant UNBS create its own standards unit that will be checking that the standards of police such that issues of bribery, embarrassment and torture that are reported time and again are checked?! Please lets respect the institutions and let the institutionalization of service provision emit efficient and effective functionality!
