Whether S.C., Prince Georges County, Maryland or anywhere in - TopicsExpress

Whether S.C., Prince Georges County, Maryland or anywhere in America, we must deal with the disturbing apathy among citizens and the undemocratic nature of elections. Remember we live in a country where less than 40% of the people vote for president and right here in Prince Georges County we had less than 20% of registered voters come out this past June. This article mirrors many of our political issues in Prince Georges County. Our elected officials who see removing current term limits (Question J) as a solution to moving Prince Georges County forward are missing the big picture. Our success as a county is not dependent on a small group of leaders staying in office, rather it will be the creation of a healthy democracy that breeds a broad spectrum of leaders/institutions throughout the county and a more engaged citizenry. As you fight to extend your term, you miss the greater mission of great leaders which is improving the body politic. If more time is spent on developing the people, the County will move forward just fine with or without an individual personality. We have to get to a point where it is not about us if we truly want a better Prince Georges County. #betterdemocracy #campaignfinancereform
