Whether this bill is voted on this week, or next month, Republican - TopicsExpress

Whether this bill is voted on this week, or next month, Republican lawmakers should consider the consequences RFRA would have on the state’s ability to market itself as modern and ability to attract top talent. Michigan’s young, college-educated workforce is leaving the state in alarming numbers, and many are citing the draconian policies institutionalized by Michigan lawmakers as their reason for doing so. Governor Rick Snyder has done tremendous work in reinventing Michigan as a business-friendly state, but – as our business leaders have noted – we can only attract top talent if we are welcoming and inclusive to all. RFRA does the exact opposite. As Michigan reinvents its brand, we have a choice. We can be perceived as discriminatory and non-inclusive, or fully move towards becoming a “comeback state.” If Gov. Snyder is truly committed to Michigan’s reinvention and attracting the top talent to our state, he should veto Speaker Bolger’s “license to discriminate” bill should it pass the Senate in 2015.
