Whew! Another long day, but the kitchen island is finally done! Yea!!! I am sore already from a huge amount of sanding. The final sanding was done with 220 grit using a combination of my little orbital sander and hand sanding. I also oiled it for the first time tonight. From all of the reading I have done I will need to oil it once a day, every day for a week; then once a week for a month; then once a month after that. When I applied the oil the beautiful grain and color really popped. Sooooo pretty!! Keeping with the colors of the kitchen, the outside is painted white and inside is my light turquoise. Tomorrow we tackle the countertop where the sink goes. I had hoped to get some artwork done, but I doubt that will happen. Lol. Notice my little helper is in one of the photos. :)
