Which Puppy? Since Lucy has been gone my mornings have fallen - TopicsExpress

Which Puppy? Since Lucy has been gone my mornings have fallen into a new routine. I get up and let Lola out, make my oatmeal and her breakfast, then think of every reason I can NOT to return to the bedroom and bathroom. Lucys crate is in my bedroom. When we brought Lucy home and took her crate shopping she was a tiny little thing. Her breeder assured me Lucy would likely top the scales at 50-55 lbs. So I chose a nice small crate. Immediately Bob said, I dont know, Pammy. I think she may outgrow that. I assured him she wouldnt. Fortunately my friend, who had her own retriever just stood there laughing until she could get her words out. No way! Youre gonna need a bigger crate. So we got the big one. Lucy became attached to her crate. It was HERS. Great, right? The next few months Lucy grew daily. First her feet, then shed get longer and her ears would shrink. Couple weeks later shed get taller, ears longer, and her too short body would catch up with her too long legs. And so it went...on and on. The dog just didnt stop growing! It was an amazing thing to watch. One day I told her, kennels, she hopped in and I heard a loud, CRRRRRACK! The negative voice in my head said, Oh thats not good. The glass half full voice muttered, Probably nothing. I pulled back the blanket and saw a crack the size of the Mississippi river running full across the cage bottom. Bob and I tried to fix it. We even bought a piece of wood to use in place of the original flooring. Lucy refused to go into the kennel unless everything remained as it came for the rest of her life! In the bathroom, Lucy and I had this daily game that Lucy came ip with where she finds an empty toilet paper roll, pilfers it, walks as far as the steps leading out of my bedroom then Im supposed to say, OH NO! Ive been robbed! Who could do such a dastardly deed? Shed stand there wagging faster and faster till the words were said then glance back over her shoulder at me revealing the stolen roll and run like the wind. Every day until we had to change the game and then Id set the roll down loudly on the toilet seat, shed get it with a little help and walk out rather than run. These are just 2 of our many morning rituals. And life without them has been heart wrenching. So....we decided to take the plunge. All 3 of us have had our hearts Lucyfied. The only thing that might help other than time is that fresh vision a new puppy brings to your life when she begins to explore the wonders of this great big world. Ill spare you the breeder search and go straight to yesterday.....after my shower! YEEGADS! Bobs gonna think I died in here. LOL,
